Autonomous Vehicle Pop Up Store
People are afraid of the technology behind autonomous vehicles and are unable to easily test drive autonomous vehicles. By providing a pop-up stop for autonomous vehicles combining the benefits of a cars salesman, and the flexibility of a car as a service business model, we are enabling people to try, gain confidence, and use an AV for the first time, affordably.
Through our secondary and primary in-depth interviews with men and women in their teens and into their 60’s over 2-10 minute interviews around the San Francisco Bay Area, we gained insights that helped us narrow in on and refine towards our final concept. Specific learnings were that the future retail of autonomous vehicles is much closer than we thought, as well as how to design for different consumer behaviors, perceptions and for their expectations.
Exploring what currently is, we were able to create what could be, how it could be, and test these ideas using journey maps storyboards, and our micro-pilot tests at the San Francisco ferry building. In this test, we developed a hypothesis around our core concept, and came back with qualitative and quantitative data on what worked and what didn’t. With this new information, we further refined our brand strategy, value proposition, market positioning, digital and physical prototype, our script, and conceptual ideas.
